Swiss cities to launch mobility platform to improve passenger transport
Symbolic picture generated with DALL-E
Basel, Bern and Zurich want to create a transport platform. An app will allow users to browse, book and pay for all mobility options, including bike rentals, car sharing and trams. In this way, the cities will promote sustainable, integrated mobility. The cantonal parliament will be asked to finance the project with CHF 5.06 million from the Mobility Fund of the city of Basel.
Cities and transport companies want to work together to achieve their transport policy strategies: for the transition to urban transport to be successful, it must be easy for users to switch to sustainable modes of transport. Political negotiations on project financing are underway in the three cities. Zurich and Bern are discussing funding. The Basel Mobility Fund will co-finance the project.
Cities offer many sustainable, space-efficient mobility solutions. Future MaaS applications will allow customers to plan, book and pay for door-to-door mobility services. This will link public transport with sharing services such as bike and car rentals. As well as online, MaaS connects supply and demand on the road. A network of mobility hubs is desired. These destinations offer shared journeys. The hubs will be located at public transport hubs and other relevant locations in the city and surrounding communities. Passengers should be free to mix modes wherever possible.

The Duisburg Gateway Terminal (DGT) achieved a significant milestone a week ago with the arrival and loading of the first containers onto its premises, marking a successful test run for the terminal’s crane, team, and operations.
Sven Zölle, Managing Director of DGT, personally oversaw the loading of the initial containers from the ship, using the crane himself. Expressing his excitement, Zölle, who has prior experience operating cranes, described the moment as “fantastic” and “indescribable.”
Under the leadership of Christoph Kahlert, also Managing Director of DGT, the terminal aims to embrace a bottom-up approach in its operations. Kahlert emphasized the importance of teamwork, acknowledging the assistance of the MTD team from Logport VI in specially loading the containers for the test run.
DGT, slated to become the largest container terminal in the European hinterland, is committed to operating in a climate-neutral manner. The terminal is gearing up for its operational debut this summer, with the arrival of the first containers carrying cargo.
Spanning an impressive 65,000 square meters of container storage space, DGT is poised to play a pivotal role in the region’s logistics landscape.
