Our 19th Assembly and Strategy Workshop with the Advisory Board and Members is strategically scheduled for April 4th. This follows the RH2INE initiative session from 09:00 to 10:30 and precedes the Networking Dinner of CED, scheduled from 18:30 to 22:00. The Assembly and Strategy Workshop will take place on the Fourth Floor Auditorium of the House of Dutch Provinces, located at Rue de Trèves 59-61, 1040 Brussels, Belgium, from 13:00 to 17:30. We aim to leverage the insights gathered during this multi-day event to update our Corridor Strategy and emphasize key areas of importance within the Rhine-Alpine Corridor.

Port of Strasbourg signs development Contract with Key Regional Leaders

Claire Merlin, Director of the Ports of Strasbourg, and key regional leaders, including Anne-Marie Jean, President of the Port Authority, Jeanne Barseghian, Mayor of Strasbourg, Pia Imbs, President of the Strasbourg Eurometropole, and Franck Leroy, President of the Grand Est Region, have signed a new development contract. This contract intends to promote an operational, innovative, and ambitious cooperation for the region, with an emphasis on the harmonious development of port and urban acitivies.
The development contract focuses on three primary objectives: improving the city-port relationship, fostering economic development, and promoting energy and environmental transition. This renewed contract draws on recent successful collaboration and the outcomes of a prior 2011 development contract that focused on urban projects and port improvements. The partners recognised the need to broaden the contract’s scope to address contemporary concerns, particularly those related to economic development, the environment, and energy transition.
The inclusion of the Grand Est Region was a natural decision, given its competences in economic and territorial development, as well as the geographical scope of the Ports of Strasbourg that manages 100 km of Rhine shoreline. The contract is also consistent with national and European initiatives, such as the European Green Deal, which aims to cut greenhouse gas emissions by 90% in 2050 and increase inland waterway transport.
Overall, the goal is to construct a thorough action plan that improves the industrial port zone and its terminals, encourages innovation and energy transition, and handles climate and environmental problems in order to create multifunctional, safe, and high-quality “port-city” places.
