The European Commission has launched an open public survey on the next Multiannual Financial Framework (MFF), focusing on policy-based budgets, simplicity, impactfulness, and flexibility. The Commission’s communication document, “The Road to the Next Multiannual Financial Framework” (Linked below) highlights key principles for the next MFF, including a policy-based budget, fewer programmes, a country-specific plan, a European Competitiveness Fund, and swift crisis responses.
The Commission will present its proposal in July, and large-scale consultations are being conducted to gather input on the future multiannual budget. The survey invites stakeholders and the public to participate in discussions on the EU’s next long-term budget, highlighting the needs of transport, including a predictable budget for long-term investments in infrastructure projects with high EU added value and targeted R&I and roll-out of green and digital transport solutions.

The German Aerospace Center (DLR) is receiving 35 million euros in funding for the “Innovative Modular Mobility Made in Germany” project.
The project aims to combine public transport and parcel delivery in a holistic mobility approach for the “last mile.” A small test fleet of automated modular vehicles, including the U-Shift, will be used in real-world conditions in Braunschweig. The development of autonomous vehicle systems “made in Germany” and strengthening Germany as a centre of innovation is one of the goals of this project.
The U-Shift is an automated platform with interchangeable passenger and freight capsules, designed for efficiency, safety, and sustainability. The project will test the U-Shift modules in real traffic in Braunschweig, ensuring security and integration into real traffic. The project is supported by the city of Braunschweig and the Regionalverband Großraum Braunschweig.
