On March 3rd and 4th, the 10th edition of Shipping, Forwarding & Logistics Meet Industry took place at the Centro Congressi di Assolombarda in Milan. This annual forum explores the important link between the logistics, shipping, and transport sectors and Italy’s manufacturing and industrial base. Under the theme “Italy between Prometheus and Sisyphus,” the event addressed the topics of production, commerce, and logistics in search of shared growth.
The introductory program was structured to analyze the current global environment through several strategic lenses. Discussions focused on the shifting dynamics of global trade routes and the emerging risks within new markets, alongside a critical evaluation of the geopolitical realities and misconceptions shaping the modern world order. Further analysis was dedicated to the resilience of the European economy in the face of gradual systemic pressures and the specific challenges Italy faces in maintaining its role as a transformative economy within an evolving European “de-risking” framework.
In addition to these plenary sessions, the event featured dedicated tracks covering the future of the supply chain and technological integration. In this context, our Chair Alina Candu intervened in her dual capacity as a representative of Confindustria Lombardia and as Chair of the Rhine-Alpine Corridor EGTC. Participating in a strategic session on short-term intermodal solutions, she identified intermodality as the definitive keyword of modern logistics. She emphasized that integrating road, rail, and maritime transport into a seamless journey is essential to reducing costs, lowering emissions, and strengthening supply chains, allowing the region to compete with major Northern European hubs like Rotterdam and Hamburg.
The Chair’s primary message highlighted that a truly integrated system, comprising Alpine crossings, intermodal terminals, airport hubs, and port connections, positions Italy and Lombardy as a natural gateway between continental Europe and the Mediterranean. This potential, however, must be fueled by consistent investment, effective multi-level governance, and a shared long-term vision between the public and private sectors.
Ms. Candu specifically underscored the strategic importance of the Rhine-Alpine Corridor. She noted that the new TEN-T regulation, which now links it to the North Sea–Mediterranean Corridor, opens significant new opportunities and challenges. This evolution involves new territories, strengthens connections with France, and reinforces Switzerland’s role in rail infrastructure, all of which require heightened coordination and a unified vision between institutions and regional territories.
