The EGTC Rhine-Alpine thanks all its members and the entire community the good partnership and cooperation in 2022! This past year marked changes and new paths also for the EGTC itself. In January, we welcomed Dr. Cecilia Braun as our new director who announced the renewal of the joint corridor strategy of the EGTC as one of her main tasks in the near future. Throughout the year, the EGTC has worked intensively with the corridor community – online and offline – and developed a comprehensive plan to come to a renewed join corridor strategy in a collaborative approach. We now look forward to exciting activities and projects with you in 2023 and especially to develop our strategy. We wish you a Merry Christmas and a Happy and Healthy New Year!

By handing over a symbolic funding cheque, State Secretary for Economic Affairs Dr. Patrick Rapp gave the starting signal for the lighthouse project “Sustainable logistics and personal mobility using KArgoTramTrains (RegioKArgoTramTrain)” on December 8, 2022 in Karlsruhe. The Albtal-Verkehrsgesellschaft (AVG) receives around 2.6 million euros from the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) and an additional 1.3 million euros from state funds to provide an efficient and sustainable solution for the mobility of people and goods using trams. The aim of the RegioKArgoTramTrain project is to further develop the combined transport of people and goods in trams with automated loading and unloading and to demonstrate it in a real laboratory. AI-based technology will be set up in the rail vehicle for loading and unloading. In addition, a logistics concept is being developed to map long-term and economical operation of a “RegioKArgoTramTrain” within cities and their surrounding areas.
