Policy Rethink: Enhanced Planning and Governance for North Sea-Rhine-Mediterranean Corridor
This targeted analysis project aims to carry out a territorial analysis of the North Sea Rhine Mediterranean Corridor and deliver a sound and evidence-based foundation for developing a common spatial and governance approach for the NSRM Corridor, potentially serving as a model for other trans-European corridors.
Challenge: The North Sea-Rhine-Mediterranean Corridor brings new geographical scope in an expanded transport corridor considered Europe’s transport infrastructure backbone.
Focus: harmonise spatial planning and transport development for effective regional development and explore challenges and opportunities at the spatial, political and organisational levels.
Aims:
- a joint spatial and governance approach for the entire territory. Develop and visualise a unified perspective for the new corridor.
- gain perspective of stakeholder goals and requirements concerning governance, connectivity and regional/economic development.
- overcome cross-border bottlenecks and strengthen East-West railway connections.
Impact: stimulate development of an integrated governance approach, considering all policy levels from local to European and strengthen territorial coherence.

The project is funded by ESPON EGTC, which is in turn Co-Funded by the European Union via Interreg.
