The European Commission has proposed a Clean Industrial Deal, which aims to support EU-made clean manufacturing by providing 100 billion euros as part of its competitiveness plan. The deal aims to help energy-intensive industries, which face high costs and heavy bureaucracy, compete for market share with global rivals. The Commission plans to launch guarantee schemes to ease costs for long-term renewable power contracts and support grid manufacturers. Additionally, the Commission proposes creating an EU Critical Raw Material Centre to jointly purchase key metals and minerals needed for the energy transition. The deal is subject to approval in the European Parliament and amongst a reinforced majority of EU member states.
