Rail-road handling in the combined transport terminal in Duisburg will start in July

Goods can also be transshipped between rail and road at the DUSS intermodal hub in Duisburg from July. To this end, duisport and DUSS, a subsidiary of DB Netz AG, have agreed on a cooperative partnership. From July, DUSS customers can deliver truck trailers via the site of the future Duisburg Gateway Terminal (DGT). duisport then transports these with terminal vehicles to the combined transport hub of DUSS. Direct road access will then be available in Duisburg-Ruhrort from summer 2023. “In a good partnership, we have reached an agreement for more freight traffic on the climate-friendly rail. With this solution, we can dispatch goods that are delivered by truck before the end of the construction work for our own access road,” says Alexander Stern, Managing Director of DUSS. “In this way we are promoting the shift in traffic from road to rail.” The commissioning of the DB terminal is an important milestone in the course of the diverse local infrastructure measures that DUSS and duisport are currently driving. The goal is the efficient networking of the four future intermodal terminals in Ruhrort and Meiderich via roads within the port. Combined with intelligent traffic routing that relieves residential streets and noticeably reduces emissions and waiting times.

New Genoa Breakwater: no bids submitted

In view of the fact that no bids were submitted by the two groups pre-qualified to present an offer in the call for tender for the implementation of the detailed and executive design and construction of the new Breakwater of Genoa, the Port Authority declares its intention to proceed, in compliance with art.63 of the Public Procurement Code, with the contract award process with the interested parties. Within this framework, alternative solutions are currently being assessed. Firstly, the opportunity, during the contract award process, to review the design of the breakwater, with no changes to project performance and costs, as per requirements outlined in report n.1/22 of the Standing Committee of the Upper Council for Public Works, to be incorporated during the final detailed design process. Secondly, to explore the possibility of releasing funds from the ad-hoc Ministerial Fund or from other sources of Port Authority or Government finance, to cover the raw material price increases.
DB becomes the first intermodal partner of the Star Alliance

From 1 August, Deutsche Bahn (DB) will be the world’s first intermodal partner of the Star Alliance. DB customers and passengers of Star Alliance member airlines will be able to start or end their journey on the climate-friendly train. Star Alliance intends to further expand intermodal partnerships in the future. Germany is the first market and DB is the world’s first partner in the new Star Alliance programme. The new partnership between DB and Star Alliance builds on the Lufthansa Express Rail program. This means that Lufthansa customers have been able to buy a combined ticket for train and flight in one booking step for more than 20 years. In future, in addition to Lufthansa, all 25 other member airlines of the Star Alliance will be able to include DB’s environmentally friendly ICE trains with flight numbers in their booking systems. With just one booking process, airline customers receive a combined ticket for the outward and return flight and the respective train journeys including seat reservation. At check-in – which is possible until shortly before the train departs – travelers receive their boarding passes for both the flight and the train journey.
