The Central Commission for Navigation on the Rhine (CCNR) has announced an extension to its electronic reporting obligations for ships longer than 86 meters with cargo holds for commodities transit, as well as vessels with propulsion or auxiliary systems run on fuels other than gas oil or LNG.
The extension will go into effect on December 1, 2026. The CCNR has progressively adopted electronic reporting since 2010 to streamline data exchange between vessels and district control centres, enhance traffic safety, navigation, and accident control. The CCNR advises the industry to be aware of this extended electronic reporting responsibility and to choose software for sending electronic reports as soon as possible and complete the formalities specified by the software provider. The CCNR also developed a questionnaire to help inland waterway operators determine if they fall under the electronic reporting requirement or its extension to December 1, 2026.
