Contargo to operate the Weil am Rhein container port

The port of Weil am Rhein is the first German port at the Rhine, downstream of Basel. These days, it has tendered the operation of its container terminal to Contargo. Taking over as operator enables Contargo to expand its service offer to include pre- and on-carriage, transport to and from the seaports, the storage of containers, and value-added services such as container repairs.

Contargo is a major hinterland logistics operator, running 46 barges on the Rhine, besides block train operations. Find more about the container terminal here (external link).

The largest port area is the “Osthafen”, east of Frankfurt’s downtown. The “GFH Gemeinschaft Frankfurter Hafenanlieger” (community of adjacent owners at Frankfurt port), together with the regional chamber of commerce, now ordered a study by the Fulda University of Applied Sciences. It has confirmed the port’s importance for the regional economy. Find the whole news here (external link, German language).
