Rhine-Alpine Talks #11
Roadmap towards a Carbon Neutral Rhine-Alpine Corridor
Roadmap towards a Carbon Neutral Rhine-Alpine Corridor
The “Roadmap Towards a Carbon Neutral Rhine-Alpine Corridor” developed by the EGTC in close consultation with its boards was presented at the last Rhine-Alpine Talks in 2021 on 3 December, 11:00-12:30 h.
In the Roadmap, the EGTC proposes several steps to accelerate the development of a strategy to significantly step up efforts to green the Rhine-Alpine Corridor in order to attain climate change goals, as set in the European Green Deal. The roadmap shall act as catalyst for efficient transformation processes.
The various targets set out for the EU, such as in the Sustainable and Smart Mobility Strategy (SSMS), and the Fit for 55 package aim to decarbonise all modes of transport, especially along the TEN-T corridors, boosting the uptake of zero-emissions vehicles, renewable and low-carbon fuels and related infrastructure, zero emissions ports, making interurban and urban mobility sustainable and freight green.
In this edition of the Rhine-Alpine Talks, the presentation and handover of the roadmap was followed by a keynote on the Sustainable and Smart Mobility Strategy of the EU by Filip-Alexandru Negreanu-Arboreanu, Responsible for this Strategy in the Cabinet of the EU-Commissioner for Transport Adina Vălean. He confirmed the full support of Commissioner Vălean for the EGTC’s endeavors to become the first carbon neutral transport corridor. In course of the Rhine-Alpine Talks, the Chair of the EGTC Jeannette Baljeu handed over the first printout of the Roadmap to Pawel Wojciechowski, the European Coordinator for the Rhine-Alpine Corridor. With the roadmap the Rhine-Alpine corridor is aiming to become the first European carbon neutral corridor. Examples of lighthouse projects by EGTC members in ports, cities and regions of the Rhine-Alpine Corridor completed the event.
The roadmap is available for download here.
