Freight traffic on the Upper Rhine

GeoRhena has collaborated for the first time with the Central Commission for Navigation on the Rhine (CCNR) to create 4 maps. Based on data provided by CCNR, GeoRhena has recently published 4 static maps of freight traffic on the Upper Rhine. The following links lead to the respective metadata sheets of the maps on the GeoRhena geoportal:

Goods traffic on the Upper Rhine in 2021: This map shows the volume of goods transported on the Upper Rhine by section. The data shown is from 2021 and the accompanying graphic provides an overview of the development over the last five years.

Goods flow uphill and downhill by type of goods on the Upper Rhine in 2021: This map shows the flows of goods that cross the Upper Rhine by type. The data shown is from 2021 and relates to the entire Upper Rhine.

Port handling on the waterway on the Upper Rhine in 2021: This map shows the volume of goods handled per port on the Upper Rhine.

Development of port handling on the waterway on the Upper Rhine between 2018 and 2021: This map shows the development of the volume of goods handled per port on the Upper Rhine between 2018 and 2021.

The data was made available in full by the CCNR, which also bears responsibility for it. Redistribution of the maps is possible and requires GeoRhena and ZKR to be cited as sources.

Start of Deutschlandticket in Germany in May – 750,000 new customers in three weeks

On 1 May 2023, the Deutschland-Ticket will be launched in Germany. With the digital, nationwide subscription ticket for 49 euros per month, passengers can use buses and trains in local transport anywhere and almost without restrictions. Since advance sales started on 3 April, almost 750,000 new Deutschland-Ticket subscriptions have been taken out. The industry association VDV assumes that a total of five to six million new subscribers will opt for the Deutschland-Ticket. According to the VDV forecast, there are also around eleven million regular customers who will switch from their current subscriptions to the cheaper Deutschland-Ticket.

The Joint Corridors Off-Road (JCOR) program is an initiative of the Dutch Topsector Logistics and consists of an ecosystem with all relevant stakeholders in the Netherlands, such as government, students, legal support and most of all shippers, carriers and terminals. It is a hands-on program for and with companies. JCOR hosts two sessions in German and in English under the headline “Stimulating a modal shift: move your international cargo from road to rail and water” at the transport logistic fair in Munich.
